WHAT CAUSES SKIN BLEMISHES?

WHAT CAUSES SKIN BLEMISHES? WHAT ARE THE TYPES?

Skin blemishes are darkening of the skin surface caused by various factors and can cover small or larger areas darker than the skin. Unfortunately, skin blemishes can cause many people to lose self-confidence or feel bad about themselves. So, what should we do if we have skin blemishes?

Freckles, the most common spot problem, is a genetic problem. While it decreases enough to disappear in winter, with sun contact in summer, there are spot-like, 1-3 mm spots on the face, on the nose and on the cheeks. It is mostly caused by genetic factors. Skin spots are especially common in red-skinned people. Pregnancy spots, called melasma, are spots that may occur due to hormonal changes during pregnancy. Since it is a hormonal change, using sunscreen suitable for pregnancy while going out during pregnancy will help prevent stains in order to reduce its outbreak.  It can also be seen frequently in thyroid patients, adrenal gland diseases, polycystic ovary syndrome. Skin spots can be seen in individuals who use birth control pills. Not only hormonal reasons, but also improper use of cosmetics is another reason that leads to spot formation.

“Wood Light” Examination in the Diagnosis of Skin Spots

In skin blemishes, it is important to distinguish whether the blemishes are pigment spots or caused by another condition. Wood light examination, the so-called purple light, is a method used to measure the depth of the blemish in both light and dark skin.

The Basis of Treatment for Skin Spots: Sunscreen

The earlier skin spot treatment is started, the more effective it will be. Existing spots become more permanent with the effect of sunlight. Spot treatments vary according to age group and underlying causes. The main thing in treatment is to use a sunscreen suitable for the skin type in summer and winter. It is appropriate to use sunscreens 20 minutes before going out in the sun and every 4 hours. Products with peeling ingredients should be used mostly at night. It is especially important for people who work in front of a monitor and are exposed to fluorescent lights to use sunscreen at home. Apart from creams, peeling, mesotherapy, PRP and laser treatments are other systems used.
